April 2014 – Partners for Clean Streams

Earth Day – Earth Month

admin — Fri, 28 Mar 2014 14:07:08 +0000

April is often known for its rain, spring like weather, and Earth Day. While we cannot promise the rain or weather, we can get excited about our Earth. And at PCS, we are excited about Earth’s fresh water. Over three-fourths of our Earth is covered in water but less than three percent is fresh water, and most of that is frozen. Of that usable fresh water, seventy-five percent is within the Great Lakes. The little bit of fresh, usable water on this planet is worth protecting. The Maumee River is the largest of any of the rivers flowing into the Great Lakes and deserves to be cared for to sustain our drinking water, our commerce, our recreation, and our abundant wildlife. This is our main message as we celebrate Earth Day. We encourage you to find more ways to reduce our impact, conserve resources, appreciate nature, and celebrate your Earth! Below is a schedule of events we’ll be supporting in the coming weeks. Stop by – we look forward to seeing you there!

April 5-6	Walleye Run; Rotary Pavilion at Side Cut Metropark
April 12	Global Youth Service Day; Appreciation Picnic at the Toledo Zoo
April 22	University of Toledo Earth Fest
April 26	Party for the Planet at the Toledo Zoo

Walleye Run Fun

admin — Fri, 28 Mar 2014 14:06:50 +0000

Bass Pro Shops and Partners for Clean Streams are holding our 2nd Annual Walleye Run River Clean Up! Join us Saturday and Sunday April 5 and 6 at Side Cut Metropark from 7am-4:30pm. After searching and finding trash, bring us your collected “river junk” to the Rotary Pavilion and watch the collected pile of trash grow. In return for your trashy findings, we’re giving out prizes to all participants! In addition, don’t forget to enter our raffle at Rotary Pavilion for chance to win awesome outdoor equipment (donated by Bass Pro Shops)! The event is open to all families, anglers, youth groups, etc. and proceeds go to support PCS. See you there!

Spring is here!

As the warmer months finally arrive, the excitement grows for fishing along the Maumee River, boating in Lake Erie, exploring lush forests, and enjoying wildlife in parks. We look forward to outings with our families and making memories to last a lifetime. One thing that ties these joys together is a clean and healthy river, but our local streams require our care. Rivers and streams need your support and luckily, there are people and organizations that can help here in Toledo. Please support PCS as we work to protect those rivers. Your monetary donation goes straight into programs like river cleanups and public education services that directly influence the health of your local rivers and streams. Become a steward and a partner for clean streams today and help make your rivers clean, clear, and safe where we all work, live, and play.
