None more wonderful than the freshwater that sustains life, like us! Our freshwater is, particularly, unique to our planet, and a resource that is worth protecting – and needs protecting. Unfortunately, due to climate change and pollution, clean freshwater is becoming scarcer and scarcer. We are located next to one of the greatest readily available freshwater resources on this planet and it needs our help. You can join the momentum by cleaning our waterways with PCS. Support healthy waters and healthy communities this Earth Month by:

Joining us for a Reflection of Marine Debris in our Water: Unmasking 2020 presentation! On April 22nd at 7 pm, celebrate Earth Day with us by getting to know our waterways’ debris issues and learning how you can better our water quality. This is a virtual presentation. Get the link for this video call by registering here!

Getting Hooked on our Fishing Line Bin Program! We always need people to donate, sponsor, and adopt a fishing line bin! The walleye season is coming into full swing, there is no better way to protect wildlife entanglement from the stray fishing lines than contributing to this problem. Check out how you can help our wildlife stay free and untangled here!

Rolling up Your Sleeves and Completing a Clean Your Streams 365! Show your love for Earth by partaking in a year-round effort for clearer cleaner waterways! We provided all cleanup supplies including gloves, trash bags, data cards, grabbers, and we facilitate trash disposal. We have an extensive site list of various locations along Swan Creek, Ottawa River, Maumee River, Maumee Bay tributaries, Lake Erie tributaries, and more that require marine debris removal. This is a perfect way to celebrate Earth Day.  Sign-up here!

Run for the Blue (Gold) Metal! https://partnersforcleanstreams.org/2021/03/25/run-for-the-blue-gold-metal/ https://partnersforcleanstreams.org/2021/03/25/run-for-the-blue-gold-metal/#respond Thu, 25 Mar 2021 14:07:59 +0000 https://partnersforcleanstreams.org/run-for-the-blue-gold-metal/ GCMIt is no secret that the freshwater in our region is worth its weight in gold. We are responsible for helping make the marathon as sustainable as possible through reducing supply waste and diverting thousands of pounds of recyclable materials from a lifetime in a landfill.  We have three shifts to fill:

Saturday, April 24: 8 am – 11 am

Sunday, April 25: 8 am – 11 am

Sunday, April 25: 11 am – 230pm

If you are interested in doing something positive for the planet during Earth Month, the “Green Team” is a great opportunity for you to make a tangible difference.  You can sign up through Mercy Health Glass City Marathon’s volunteer website and look for “Green Team.” All registered volunteers will receive a free Glass City Marathon t-shirt.  Or contact us and we will be happy to register you or your team.  All volunteers are required to wear masks. If you cannot make it to the marathon, please consider supporting us as a charity partner through a donation.  At PCS, we promote healthy runners and healthy rivers!

Happy Native Plant Month! https://partnersforcleanstreams.org/2021/03/25/happy-native-plant-month/ https://partnersforcleanstreams.org/2021/03/25/happy-native-plant-month/#respond Thu, 25 Mar 2021 13:56:39 +0000 https://partnersforcleanstreams.org/happy-native-plant-month/ NativePlantMonthCurTwo years ago, Governor DeWine signed a bill into law that designates April as Ohio Native Plant Month. This honor is based on the many benefits that native plants bring to all facets of our environment, including our waterways! Plants native to our region typically have deeper root systems that help stabilize our soils (less erosion), uptake nutrients (fertilizers), and other contaminants before they reach our waterways. Increased soil stabilization and nutrient uptake can help to reduce the algal blooms we are becoming so familiar with here.

There are going to be numerous opportunities to purchase native plants this Spring. The Oak Opening Region Chapter of Wild Ones provides a great list of plant sales for native plant beginners, enthusiasts, and well-seasoned gardeners. Visit this link for Native Plant fun!

AND! While you wait for your cuties to arrive take a pledge about using native plants and increasing pollinator gardens at https://toledolakeerie.clearchoicescleanwater.org/.

Help us do more for the waterways this spring by supporting our programs and our planet!
