Clean Your Streams Day

Did you know that the Great Lakes are the biggest freshwater source in the world? Lake Erie is the most productive for fishing of all the Great Lakes. Your support helps make our streams clean, clear and healthy so they can support this complex ecosystem. By donating to PCS, you help us reach our goals of restoring rivers that lead to Lake Erie beaches that promote fishable and swimmable conditions for generations.

Clean Your Streams

This year things are going to look a little different than in previous years. Your safety has been at the forefront of our minds throughout the entire planning process. That is why we decided to have a detailed discussion of our cleanup protocols and our safety guidelines with the Lucas County Health Department. With that “green” light, we are excited to bring more options and flexibility this year by providing both a small-group clean-up option and a “virtual” option. Please read the following safety guidelines for CYS 24.

  • Masks on when 6 feet or closer to non-family members- our leadership teams will always have them on
  • Back up masks available if you forget yours
  • Check-in is brief and staggered for each small group (15ish minutes)
  • Assigned clean-up sites, we will get your group spread out to its own location in need of a stream cleanup
  • Small groups receive pre-prepared kits of cleaning supplies, site assignments, explanation of data card, and brief safety talk
  • Most Kickoffs will be outside but if not, we will interact with small groups inside only briefly (with masks on) – site captains (or 1 adult from a family) may come in while others wait outside or in cars
  • Some sites will have check-in times, ask people to wait in their cars, or have a separate "waiting" zone outside
  • Staggered quick drop-offs and pre-bundled "grab & go" goodies and t-shirt. Unfortunately, there will be no picnic this year.
  • Challenge competitions will be through social media and virtually based
  • We will separate "clean" and "dirty" supplies after and sanitize or quarantine all supplies
  • Please hand sanitizer or wash your hands prior to check-in and returning supplies.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at the sites

If you have questions on how to utilize the CleanSwell App, we have created a short tutorial on how to use the app for CYS 24. Check it out here. We are looking forward to helping our waterways this CYS 24 and hope you join us and all of the community members dedicated to helping our waterways this September 26!
