Clean Your Streams Day

Did you know that the Great Lakes are the biggest freshwater source in the world? Lake Erie is the most productive for fishing of all the Great Lakes. Your support helps make our streams clean, clear and healthy so they can support this complex ecosystem. By donating to PCS, you help us reach our goals of restoring rivers that lead to Lake Erie beaches that promote fishable and swimmable conditions for generations.

Clean Your Streams

For more than 20 years, handmade trophies and plaques have been in circulation to honor the Clean Your Streams Challenges winners, including “Battle of the Bags” and “Awesome Effort.” To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first Clean Your Streams Day, we’re offering a one-time Trash 2 Treasure Challenge. Individuals or groups are invited to construct their own Challenge Trophy using materials that are commonly found as marine debris. (Research is encouraged!) Winners will be selected by CYS 25 participants who attend the Appreciation Picnic on Saturday, September 25, 2021, and vote for their favorite.

Challenge Guidelines

  • The Trash 2 Treasure Challenge will be offered for three age groups: Children (under 12), Youth (13-18), and Adults (over 18)
  • The Challenge may be completed by an individual or a group.
  • The Challenge trophy shall be constructed using materials that are commonly found as marine debris and maybe examples or actually removed from the environment, artist’s choice.
  • The trophy shall be mounted on a 5-gallon bucket lid and shall not exceed two (2) feet in height. Partners for Clean Streams has bucket lids available if you need them. Just give us a call during the week at 419.874.0727.
  • The winner in each age group will receive a plaque to keep (handmade, of course) and second and third places will be recognized with a certificate.
  • At the conclusion of the Challenge, the trophy must be dismantled and its components, reused, recycled, or disposed of properly as appropriate.

Artists should complete the entry form and attach it to the bottom of their trophies. Completed trophies should be dropped off at the site of the Appreciation Picnic on Friday, September 24th between 11:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m. or Saturday, September 25th between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Voting will take place during the Appreciation Picnic, and the trophies will be released after the awards. Thanks for celebrating the 25th anniversary of Clean Your Streams with us!
