What does PCS do?
Born out of the Maumee Remedial Action Plan (RAP) program in 2007, Partners for Clean Streams is dedicated to the health of the streams and rivers of the greater Toledo region and the people who use them. PCS works directly with citizens, businesses, governmental agencies, and other non-profit organizations to take local ownership in our rivers, streams, and lakes. We connect these organizations and individual partners through educational opportunities, conservation programs, stream clean-ups, and outreach programs to promote our local and regional water in Northwest Ohio. We work with these partners and volunteers to make those waterways clean, clear, and safe. Our organization is made up of a small staff, board members, and many, many volunteers dedicated to caring for our rivers and streams and the land connected to them.
What volunteer programs does PCS offer?
Our programs focus on marine debris prevention, marine debris removal, and water quality monitoring.
How did PCS come to be?
PCS grew out of the Maumee Regional Action Plan (RAP) Committee. In early 2007, the Maumee RAP Committee determined that their best path forward for efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability would be to form their own non-profit 501(c)3 organization and to leave the umbrella of TMACOG. In March 2007, Partners for Clean Streams (PCS) was officially created. The Maumee RAP Committee was one of PCS’s committees focusing on specific goals of addressing the Area of Concern’s Beneficial Use Impairments while continuing to restore and improve the Maumee Area of Concern (AOC) until 2015.
That committee is now a stand-alone committee, reformed and re-named the Maumee AOC Advisory Committee (MAAC), with PCS helping to facilitate meetings and encourage a pipeline of targeted projects.
