The Maumee River was designated as Scenic and Recreational by the State of Ohio 50 years ago. To celebrate its impact on the lives of everyone and everything, the Scenic Rivers Program in the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves will be hosting a festival!

This festival is open to the public, with three food trucks that will be located in the parking lot and the Wildlife Mobile Kitchen from the Ohio Division of Wildlife along the trail. Activities for friends and family include (but are not limited to):

    • Stream Quality Monitoring
    • Fish Seining
    • Build Your Own Buffer Zone
    • Canal Boat Rides (subject to fees through Metroparks Toledo)
    • Upcycling Invasives (Honeysuckle Walking-Stick Creation; Limited Supplies)
    • Build Your Own Caddisfly Case (Limited Supplies)
    • Native Plant Sale
    • Boat and Paddling Safety

Other partners (including Partners for Clean Streams) from the watershed will be in attendance to highlight both the river and the ongoing dedication to our lands and its history. Come out to celebrate with us and learn about the Maumee and its watershed, how we have interacted with it through the ages, and what is being done in the area for its conservation!

Please email Rowan Coburn-Griffis with any questions regarding the event.
