Even with cloudy skies and having to end the program early due to a storm, the first of our series of 5 Get the Lead Out Programs with the Toledo Zoo Teens was a success. These hard working kids managed to fill half of a large trash bag with fishing debris in only a half hour! Getting fishing line, lead sinkers and rogue lures out of our waterways is incredibly important not only for water quality, but also for the health and wellbeing of the wildlife that live in and near our rivers. The Maumee River is truly a local treasure, full of recreational opportunities as well as natural beauty, and we are lucky enough to have it right here in our backyards.
Many anglers enjoy the great fishing opportunity that is provided by the Maumee River, but unfortunately lead sinkers, fishing line and lures get tangled in the banks or get washed downstream. Please come out and help us remove this lost line and keep our fish, snakes, turtles and all other creatures that live both in and on the river safe and healthy. The Get the Lead Out programs will be at Side Cut Metropark from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on July 11th, and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on July 25th and August 8th. Locations throughout the park are subject to change depending on the water levels. Check the PCS Calendar or call our office at 419-874-0727 to find out where we will be!
