Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 transmission precautions, the 2020 Mercy Health Glass City Marathon has been cancelled. As a result, if you were interested in volunteering on the Green Team, stay tuned for news about next year’s event on April 23 – 25, 2021. We understand and appreciate how much planning had already been done by race organizers and their commitment to reducing the environmental impacts of the Marathon. If you’d like to still support the Green Team and our hard work so far, donations are still accepted through this link.
On a happier note, we are pleased to share the positive impact that the Green Team has made in previous years (2016-2019). In just four years of work, 5,699 lbs of cardboard and 2,424 lbs of glass were collected for recycling. The Green Team also collected race-specific trash, keeping 91 lbs of Gu Packs and 93 lbs of heat sheets from entering out waterways, not to mention tens of thousands of water bottles. Way to go Green Team and we encourage everyone to please consider supporting this effort in 2021!
